Senior thrower Mitch Obenrader has been named the Male Athlete of the Year. He is the only Behrend athlete to ever win a national championship (first place in javelin as a freshman). He is a five-time All-American, after placing in the Top 8 at the D3 nationals during his career. Obenrader holds the school record for the indoor/outdoor shot put, and outdoor discus, javelin, and hammer throw. He was also named the CSAC Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight season.
In addition to his national championship in the javelin, he has placed second in javelin as a sophomore,fifth in indoor shot put and 3rd in outdoor shot as a junior. This season, he finished third in indoor shot put at the NCAA Championships, while qualifing for the shot put and discus for the outdoor championships.
