Late Run Lifts Baseball Over Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, OH. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team defeated Muskingum Sunday in non-conference action, 3-2.

John Brittner (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley) singled through the left side in the top of the seventh and then came around to score the game-winning run. After his single, Brittner advanced to second on a sac bunt from Ian Taylor (Wexford, PA/Vincentian Academy). After reaching third on an error by the shortstop, Brittner came in to score after Ryan Hamm (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) hit a ball to the shortstop, who misplayed it and allowed the game-winning run to score.

Eric Mikulan (Pittsburgh, PA/Hampton) picked up the win after going 2.2 innings on the mound and allowing just one hit. Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) recorded his third save of the season, shutting the the Muskies in the ninth.

Both teams added a run in the second inning to get the scoring going. Justin Foreman (Oakdale, PA/South Fayette) doubled to center and then advanced to third on a wild pitch to get in scoring position. Ben Ramey (Export, PA/Franklin Regional) grounded out to third base, allowing Foreman to score.

After being down a run in the top of the fifth, Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) hit an RBI ground ball to short to tie the game at 2-all.

The Lions will be back in action on Wednesday when they take on Pitt-Bradford at home beginning at 1 p.m.
