FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Penn State Behrend softball team only scored three runs on day three of their spring break trip, falling to Worcester Polytechnic Institute 11-1 and 10-2 to Clark (Mass.) on Tuesday morning in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Engineers (3-2) had two big innings out of the five played in game one, scoring four in the first and seven in the third. For the Lions (2-4), Kayla Miller (Springboro, PA/Conneaut Valley) singled to start off the second inning and reached home on Sydney Sherrieb's (Washington, PA/Trinity) hit to left center for the lone run.
Kourtney Walsh (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) started the opener and pitched two innings, before making way for Kim Tarosky (Kittanning, PA/Kittanning) who also threw for two frames and gave up two runs on one hit.
In game two, Behrend scored two runs on eight hits but Clark had a seven-run fifth inning to finish with 10 and close the game in six innings. Julie Heinl (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) and Samantha Grismore (Westfield, NY/Westfield Academy & Central) each went 2-for-3.
Heinl also pitched a fourth and a third innings and striking out four for the loss on the hill.
The Lions return to action on Thursday against Wittenberg and Finlandia. Game one begins at 11 a.m.
