The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team closed out the 2008-09 season with a 69-60 loss to Medaille in the AMCC Tournament on Tuesday, February 24, in the Junker Center. Medaille, winners of three straight AMCC regular season and conference tournament titles, entered as the fifth seed and nudged the Behrend Lions by nine. Behrend had reached the AMCC semifinals for eleven straight seasons, every season since the league began, and entered Tuesday's night's game with an unblemished 6-0 mark at home in 2009.

The WBCA Pink ZoneTM initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Pink Zone T-shirts will be sold during the games in the Junker Center, donations will be accepted at the door, and fans are encouraged to wear pink articles of clothing. All proceeds from the event will go to the Erie unit of the American Cancer Society - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Behrend Basketball Ranked Among NCAA Statistical Leaders
The 2008-09 men's and women's basketball teams are nationally ranked among the top in Division III hoops. Both teams have enjoyed successful seasons so far and are looking to finish the season strong. Steals are hard to come by in a basketball game, but to the Behrend women's team, they seem to come pretty easy. In Division III basketball, they are currently number second in team steals at 17.0 spg. In the AMCC, they are ranked number one with almost three more steals per game than any of the other AMCC opponents.

What is your general view for how the season has started so far? As a team we are playing a bit inconsistent. Mainly because of our youth and perhaps lack of game experience. As the season progresses I expect us to not only improve individually but also as a team. We have made a lot of adjustments this year to our personnel and it has been a learning curve for everyone. I genuinely like my team and feel we have very good chemistry so it is really a matter of consistency now.
