Behrend Swimming and Diving Split Meet with Mount Union

For the women, Krystal Kovach (Scott Twp./Chartiers Valley) set an NCAA qualifying mark in the 3m diving event with a score of 263.85. Kovach also placed first in the 1m diving event with a mark of 248.40. Senior Danielle Wilson (Pittsburgh/Plum) had a great performance in the 500 yard freestyle event capturing first place with a time of 5:45.25. Wilson was one of seven seniors who were recognized before the meet on senior day. Wilson also led a team composed of Katie Van Epps (Pleasantville/Titusville), MaryEllen Spooner (Springfield, Va./Springfield) and Anne Lawrence (State College/State College) who placed first in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:00.93.
On the men's side, Steve Graves (McMurray/Peters Township) also set an NCAA qualifying mark in the 3m diving with a score of 287.15. A new school and pool record was set today when Hunter Backenstose (Downingtown/Downingtown East), Brian Mong (Franklin/Franklin), Dane Dombrosky (Mt.Pleasant/Mt.Pleasant) and Josh Weaver (Franklin/Franklin) teamed up in the 800 yard freestyle relay to record a time of 7:16.52 which had never been seen before until today. Weaver would have another first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.42.
The blue and white will have one more road meet before they begin their quest towards an AMCC championship. On Friday, February 5 the Behrend Lions will be at Edinboro for a meet to begin at 5:00 p.m. February 17 will be the date for the AMCC Diving Championships held at Grove City College while February 18-20 will be the dates for the AMCC swimming championships which are also held at Grove City College.
