Lions Fall to Baldwin-Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – Katie Van Epps and Rachel Ragen were double winners for the Penn State women’s swimming and diving team, but the Lions fell to Baldwin-Wallace 129-93 in non-conference action on Saturday.
Van Epps won the first event for Behrend, coming in first in the 1,000 free in 12:05.19 and then posted a time of 5:55.79 to capture the 500 free. Ragen had the fastest time in the 50 free in 25.86 and then touched first in the 200 fly (2:20.17).
Ragen and Van Epps were also members of the winning 400 free relay team along with Hilary MacManus and Meghan Stefanko. The squad swam in a time of 3:57.63 for first place.
MacManus added two second-place finishes on the day. She clocked in at 2:13.45 in the 200 free and then swam the 100 free in 59.80. Anne Lawrence did the same as MacManus by taking second in two events. She was runner up in the 400 IM (5:09.58) and in the 200 fly (2:27.98).
In the 200 back, Mary Ellen Spooner had the best time for the Lions with 2:26.39. Brittany Tanilli and Julie Cook combined to earn even points with a 2-3 finish in the 200 breaststroke, respectively. Tanilli finished in 2:44.90 and Cook was close behind in 2:45.33.
Behrend returns to action on Saturday at home against Allegheny and Chatham. Meet starts at 1 p.m.
