Behrend Baseball Opens Season at Spalding
The Penn State Behrend baseball team will travel to Louisville, Kentucky to battle the Spalding Golden Eagles in a three-game series over the weekend at Derby City Field for their season opener.

* The Behrend Lions were chosen to finish third in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) 2020 Preseason Coaches Poll
* Sophomore infielder Joshua Wagner (South Park, PA/South Park) and pitcher Thomas Zbezinski (Gibsonia, PA/Pine Richland) were named Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively
* Wagner and Zbezinski were also recognized in Collegiate Baseball Magazine as Players to Watch in 2020
* Wagner concluded last season ranked third in NCAA Statistics in doubles and doubles per game
* Zbezinski led the AMCC with a 5-1 conference record on the mound, earning Newcomer of the Year
* Behrend finished the 2019 campaign with a 24-17 overall record and a fourth-place finish in the AMCC
* Head coach Paul Benim is entering his 28th season at the helm with a 633-366-4 overall record
* The Lions will rely on the 17 veterans while welcoming 16 freshman to the 2020 squad

* Spalding went 2-1 last weekend at the Derby City Classic
* The Golden Eagles defeated Dubuque 8-0, before falling to Aurora 7-1 and then posting an 8-6 win over Ohio Northern
* Zack Jones is 1-1 on the hill for Spalding, striking out 14 in nine innings of work for a 1.22 ERA
