FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Behrend baseball team took two from Marywood (9-2, 9-1) in a non-conference doubleheader in Fort Pierce, Florida on Monday afternoon.
Noteworthy: Senior pitcher Ethan Tinker registered his 100th career strikeout in the second inning of game two
Game One:
Score: Penn State Behrend 9, Marywood 2
Records: Penn State Behrend (3-2), Marywood (3-3)
Key Moments:
* The Lions held Marywood to five scoreless innings and only allowing one run in the first and fifth frame
* After the Pacers took a 1-0 lead, Behrend scored five unanswered runs over three innings for a 5-1 lead
* Hank Shaffer and Joey Fazzone singled to start the third inning
* Silvio Ionadi reached on a fielder's choice and eventually scored with Shaffer on a Thomas Nicely single to left field for a 2-1 lead
* The Lions added two more runs on three hits in the third behind Shaffer's triple, scoring Spencer Deitz and Tyler Burick
* Another run was added in the fifth, before three runs in the sixth put Behrend ahead 8-2
* Shaffer finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored
* Nicely posted three RBIs, while Deitz and Paul Connolly each got a pair of hits
