Dunkle, Niland Earn AMCC Top Honors; Trio Named to All-Conference Team
Penn State Behrend freshman forward Jacob Dunkle was named the 2026 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Newcomer of the Year and head coach Dave Niland earned Coach of the Year to headline the All-AMCC Team.
ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend freshman forward Jacob Dunkle was named the 2026 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Newcomer of the Year and head coach Dave Niland earned Coach of the Year to headline the All-AMCC Team.
Dunkle is the seventh player in program history to receive Newcomer of the Year Honors, while Niland is earning his ninth Coach of the Year accolades. Dunkle was also selected to the First Team. Matthew McDonough and Nate Edwards landed on the Second Team.
Dunkle ranks second in the AMCC in field-goal percentage (56.8 percent) and in rebounds per game (8.3), while being fourth in points per game (17.0). He has scored double-figure points in 23 out of the 27 games. Dunkle posted seven double-doubles this season and scored 20 or more points in 11 games. He has led the team in scoring 17 games as a freshman. In conference only games, Dunkle ranks eighth in scoring with 16.6 points and is third in rebounds per game (7.9).
McDonough has scored double-digit points in 14 games, registering 20 or more points in four contests. He led the team in scoring in four games while leading the team in assists in 15 contests. McDonough ranks third on the team in points per game with 11.2. He leads the team and ranks third in the AMCC with 83.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line. McDonough is dishing out 3.2 assists per game to rank sixth overall in the AMCC. He also was named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team this past weekend.
Edwards ranks second on the team in points per game with 11.5 and in rebounds with 131. Edwards is also second on the team in steals (30), third in assists (45) and in field-goal percentage (50.0). He has led the team in scoring four times and registered double-digit points in 16 contests.
