Men's Water Polo Falls to Gannon and Mercyhurst
The Penn State Behrend men’s water polo team fell by a pair of goals to both Division II Mercyhurst and Division I Gannon at the Junker Center Pool on Sunday afternoon.
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team fell by a pair of goals to both Division II Mercyhurst and Division I Gannon at the Junker Center Pool on Sunday afternoon.
Game One
Score: Gannon 19, Penn State Behrend 17
Key Moments:
* The difference in the game was two goals in the first quarter
* Nick Thompson put the Lions ahead with the first goal of the game
* Thompson would go on to score a team-best seven goals and dished out three assists
* Gannon scored six goals in the first quarter and held Behrend to four goals/
* The remaining three quarters were identical in scoring with each team netting five goals in the second, six in the third and two in the fourth
* Ryan Carpico scored three goals and Dylan Hayslip added two more for the Lions
Game Two
Score: Mercyhurst 13, Penn State Behrend 11
Key Moments:
* The Lions and Lakers each scored a pair of goals in the first
* Behrend jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the second quarter
* Caden Currykosky scored three goals, including the goal to get the Lions the lead at halftime
* Mercyhurst held Behrend scoreless in the third quarter, proving to be the difference
* The Lakers and Lions tallied five goals apiece in the fourth for the two-goal margin in Mercyhurst's favor
* Owen Kroh matched Currykosky with a hattrick and added two assists
* Freddy Browarski, Adrian Tolcyzk and Hayslip each added a goal
* Browarski handed out four assists
* As a team, Behrend tallied 21 steals including eight from goalie Ethan Friedman
* Friedman finished with nine saves
