Behrend Softball Defeats Otterbein, Falls to Heidelberg

WINTER HAVEN, FL – The Penn State Behrend softball team split a pair of games on Thursday in Winter Haven, Florida. The Lions defeated Otterbein 5-2 and fell to Heidelberg 10-6 in the nightcap.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 5, Otterbein 2
Records: Penn State Behrend (5-2), Otterbein (3-4)

Key Moments:

* Abby Tingley threw a complete game to record her second win of the season and help the Lions collect their fifth straight win
* Behrend scored five runs on 10 hits, getting two hits apiece from Chole Nale, Julia Jones and Alexia Brown
* The Lions struck first in the first, almost getting two runs but settled for one
* Nale singled and stole second before scoring on Meghan Swain's double to left field
* Izabel Pozar, who reached on an error, tried to steal home and got caught for a 1-0 lead
* Another double, this time by Lexi Edgett through the left side, to score Julia Jones who also doubled to get on base
* Otterbein tied it up at 2-all in the top of the fourth
* Behrend added another run in the fifth and two insurance runs in the sixth for the final margin

Game Two: Heidelberg 10, Penn State Behrend 6
Records: Penn State Behrend (5-3), Heidelberg (5-3)

Key Moments:

* Heidelberg jumped out to a 4-1 lead
* The Lions eventually tied it up 4-all and went ahead 6-4
* Heidelberg scored six unanswered runs over the final two innings for the win
* Claire Bodien came in relief for less than an inning for the loss
* Ashley Bartus was the starting pitcher and threw four innings
* Athena Iverson went 3-for-4 with one run scored
* Nale and Edgett tallied two hits each
* In addition Edgett, Jones, Karma Malcolm and Alexia Brown had an RBI
