Behrend Softball Splits With Carnegie Mellon; Lions Take Nightcap

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team split a pair of non-conference games to Carnegie Mellon. The Lions fell 3-0 in the first and won 5-3 in the nightcap on Saturday night at Gannon University.

Game One: Carnegie Mellon 3, Penn State Behrend 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (6-5), Carnegie Mellon (10-5)

Key Moments:

* Carnegie Mellon pitcher Gianna Adams threw a perfect game
* She faced 21 batters and struck out 12, not allowing a hit in seven innings
* After five scoreless innings, the Tartans scored two in the top of the sixth
* Both innings started with a triple to get a runner in scoring position
* Abby Tingley was the starting pitcher for Behrend, giving up six hits and striking out six

* The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break the 2-all deadlock for the win
* Arianna Avila pinch hit for Hannah Smith in the sixth and singled to centerfield

* Brown and Smith both re-entered, and advanced a base on a wild pitch
* Bartus got the Lions a 4-3 lead off an RBI single to right field by Chloe Nale
* Brown added an insurance run on an error by the shortstop
* The relief pitchers for both teams were on the hook for the win or the loss
* Claire Bodien improves to 2-1 in the circle, facing 12 batters and striking out two
* The Lions scored five runs on 10 hits
* Nale and Karma Malcolm each registered two hits
