Tingley, Gruber Earn Major Awards; Seven Named to All-AMCC Softball Team
The Penn State Behrend softball senior Abby Tingley was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Pitcher of the Year and head coach Ashley Gruber earned Coach of the Year honors to highlight the All-Conference Team awards.
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball senior Abby Tingley was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Pitcher of the Year and head coach Ashley Gruber earned Coach of the Year honors to highlight the All-Conference Team awards.
Tingley joins Alexia Brown and Izabel Pozar on the First Team. Julia Jones landed on the Second Team, while Athena Iverson, Meghan Swain and Chloe Nale were voted to the Third Team. Gruber has been named Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career. She led the Lions to a 15-1 regular season record and the No. 1 seed in the AMCC Postseason Tournament, capturing their 12th overall AMCC conference tournament title.
Tingley, the starting pitcher, went undefeated at 8-0 in conference play while earning one save in six complete games. She was third with a 1.76 ERA and ranked second in shutouts with two. Tingley also ranked third in strikeouts with 33. Overall, Tingley has 82 strikeouts in 24 appearances and 14 complete games for a 2.79 ERA. This season, she reached 300 career strikeouts and moved into second place on the all-time list for career strikeouts.
Brown, the catcher, ranked third in conference games with 25 hits, fifth in stolen bases with 10 and sixth in total runs scored (20). She had nine multiple-hit games in 16 AMCC contests along with four multiple-RBI games. Overall, she ranks third on the team with a .346 average, smacking 37 hits and recording a team-leading 26 walks.
Pozar, at second base, ranked fourth in conference games with a .500 batting average and is sixth in on-base percentage (.547) and slugging percentage (.750). She ranked second in triples with three. Pozar had six multiple-hit and three multiple-RBI games in AMCC action. She ranks fourth on the team with 37 hits and has driven in 16 runs, while scoring 24. Pozar has nine stolen bases and eight doubles to go with three triples. She has turned five double plays and boasts a .971 fielding average in 38 games played.
Jones, the designated player, ranked fifth in conference games with a .400 batting average. In 16 games played, she had 20 hits, 17 RBIs, 11 runs scored to go with six doubles and two triples. Jones had eight multiple-hit and five multiple-RBI games in AMCC action. She also went 3-0 in the circle in conference games, throwing 22.2 innings and striking out nine. Overall, she leads the team in hits (52), doubles (16) and batting average (.430), and is tied for third with 28 RBIs.
Swain, the short stop, had 23 hits, 16 RBIs, 17 runs scored with five doubles, four home runs and three triples in AMCC contests. She ended the conference season with a seven-game hitting streak, registering nine multiple-hit and five multiple-RBI games. Also in conference games, she ranked third in slugging percentage (.958) and is fifth in on-base percentage (.553) and seventh in batting average (.479). Overall, she leads the team with 34 RBIs and five home runs, while ranking third in hits. This season, she reached 150 career hits and 100 career RBIs.
Iverson, at third base, had 13 hits, 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored in 16 conference games. She had three-multiple hit games and four multiple RBIs games in AMCC action. Overall, she had 24 hits, 13 RBIs, 21 runs scored and four doubles in 36 games at third base.
Nale, an outfielder, had at least a hit or more in all but three conference games. She finished with 20 hits, 13 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Nale smacked five doubles and a triple, while recording seven multiple-hit and two multiple RBI games in AMCC action. Overall, she ranks second on the team with 44 hits and 29 RBIs, while ranking fourth with a .341 average.
