Wrestling Wins Twice at Behrend Duals
The Penn State Behrend wrestling team posted a 2-1 record, defeating No. 20 Lycoming 24-23 and earning a 39-17 decision over W&J, at the Behrend Duals held at the Junker Center on Saturday.
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend wrestling team posted a 2-1 record, defeating No. 20 Lycoming 24-23 and earning a 39-17 decision over W&J, at the Behrend Duals held at the Junker Center on Saturday.
Match One: Behrend 39, W&J 17
Noteworthy:
* The Lions used either a technical fall or a pin in each match they won to defeat the Presidents
* Zach Dellinger picked up the first five points with an 18-3 technical fall at 133
* Steffan Lynch (165) and Abraham Keep (197) also earned wins by technical fall
* Lynch tallied a score of 16-1 at 165 and Keep shut out his opponent 15-0 at 197
* Cole Neil (141), Jake Brown (157), Mason Savitz (174) and Elishua Daugherty (285) recorded pins
* Neil took down Alexander Tucker in 1:15 in his first of three wins on the day
Match Two: Behrend 24, No. 20 Lycoming 23
Noteworthy:
* Down 23-19 with the heavyweight bout left, Matt Caldwell had a 20-5 technical fall over James Ellis to get Behrend past the ranked Warriors
* Evan Whiteside only needed 40 seconds to pin Leonard Cocca for the first six points at 125
* Amarfio Reynolds extended the lead to 9-0 with a 5-2 decision at 133
* Neil posted a 4-1 decision at 141 and J. Brown followed at 149 with a 13-9 decision for a commanding 15-0 advantage
* Lycoming won the next four matches, including three pins and a technical fall from 157-184 weight classes
* Keep shut out another opponent, this time 11-0 at 197 to cut the lead to five
* Caldwell needed to pin to tech. fall Ellis for the win and he did just that
Match Three: RIT 27, Behrend 17
Noteworthy:
* The Lions won four of the 10 bouts against the Tigers
* Neil and Keep maintained their unblemished records on the day to go 3-0
* At 141, Neil recorded a 13-5 major decision and Keep earned a 10-0 major decision at 197
* Whiteside registered his second win with a technical fall (17-1) at 125
* Steffan Lynch got a second victory, posting an 11-1 major decision at 165
