Savitz Named AMCC Wrestling Newcomer of the Year; Seven Earn All-Conference
Penn State Behrend freshman Mason Savitz was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Wrestling Newcomer of the Year, headlining the All-Conference Team announced on Tuesday.
ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend freshman Mason Savitz was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Wrestling Newcomer of the Year, headlining the All-Conference Team announced on Tuesday.
Savitz is one of seven Lions named to the All-AMCC Team. Evan Whiteside, Amarfio Reynolds Jr., Rudy Brown and Steffan Lynch were named to the First Team for winning the AMCC Title in their respective weight classes. Savitz, Louie DeJulia and Abe Keep were selected to the Second Team for finishing runners up at 165, 184 and 197, respectively.
Savitz, wrestling at 165, finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the NWCA Region 2. He won the W&J Invitational and the RIT Invitational at 165. Savitz only registered one loss at 165, a regionally-ranked opponent at No. 1. He finished with an overall record of 22-4, including 10 pins, four major decisions and two technical falls.
Brown was the lone repeat champion for Behrend. The 2025 AMCC Newcomer of the Year posted a technical fall in the AMCC semifinals (18-3) before winning the title with a 9-7 decision over TJ Martin of Penn Tech.
Whiteside, Reynolds Jr. and Lynch all collected their first AMCC individual title. Whiteside at 125, Reynolds Jr. at 133 and Lynch at 157. Whiteside had a pin and a technical fall in championships, while Reynolds had two wins by decision for the championship. Lynch went 3-0 on the day, earning a technical fall, major decision and a decision for the 157 championship.
