Women's Soccer Trio Earns Major Awards; Nine Named to All-AMCC Team
Penn State Behrend women’s soccer midfielder Marlene Andrade and goalkeeper Riley Morningstar were named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, while Bri Ross earned Newcomer of the Year to highlight the All-Conference honors.
ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend women's soccer midfielder Marlene Andrade and goalkeeper Riley Morningstar were named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, while Bri Ross earned Newcomer of the Year to highlight the All-Conference honors.
Andrade started all eight conference games and registered four goals and five assists for 13 points. She netted two game-winning goals in AMCC action. Overall, she has started every game and ranks second on the team with nine goals and seven assists for 25 points. Andrade converted both two out of three penalty kicks taken this season while scoring a total of four game-winning goals. She was also named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team.
Morningstar was the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and recently was named to the All-Tournament Team. She did not give up a goal in conference play for a 0.00 goals-against average. Morningstar only needed to make five saves in eight shutout games. Overall, Morningstar leads the conference with a 0.40 goals-against average in 20 contests, only giving up seven goals all season.
Ross ranked first in the AMCC with nine goals and seven assists for 25 points in just seven conference games started as a freshman. She has two hat tricks in conference play and one game-winning goal. Overall, Ross leads the team with 32 points thanks to 12 goals and eight assists.
Andrade, Morningstar and Ross were named First Team All-Conference, along with Lizzie Hoff, Rachel Sickeri, Lindsey Pawlawski and Devyn Bailey. Angelina Compeggie landed on the second team and Rori Kostos was selected to the third team.
Hoff tied for fourth in the AMCC with 16 points, scoring five goals and handing out six assists. The six assists rank third in eight conference games. In eight conference games, Hoff has tallied three game winners. Overall, she is tied for second on the team with seven assists and is third in goals (8) and points (23).
Sickeri tied for ninth in eight conference games started with four goals and four assists for 12 points. She has two game-winning goals in conference play. Sickeri registered two two-goal games against Mt. Aloysius and Carlow. Overall, she ranks fourth on the team with six goals and seven assists for 19 points.
Pawlawski, Bailey and Compeggie were instrumental in eight shutouts in conference play. They anchored the defense that did not give up a goal in the AMCC. The duo held conference opponents to six shots on goal. Overall, they helped the Lions post 16 shutouts in 20 contests played. Pawlawski added two goals and three assists for seven points, and was named to the All-Tournament Team, while Compeggie tallied a goal.
Kostos made her way on the All-Conference Team for the first time. She registered five goals in conference play and eight overall. Kostos started 18 out of 19 games played. She scored a pair of goals in the win over Hilbert.
