Volleyball Captures Title of Behrend Invitational
Coach Phil Pisanos volleyball squad captured the Behrend Invitational on Sunday, September 12 by defeating the Grove City Wolverines 3-1.
Coach Phil Pisano's volleyball squad captured the Behrend Invitational on Sunday, September 12 by defeating the Grove City Wolverines 3-1. Behrend dropped the first set 23-25, but managed to rally back with wins in sets two, three, and four by scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-16.
All-AMCC performer Brooke Gallentine (Mt.Pleasant/Southmoreland) led the way with 51 assists and 11 digs. "Brooke made great decisions on where to go with the ball and was the difference maker for us today," Coach Pisano stated. Gallentine was selected as tournament MVP.
Junior Danielle Woods (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) was also tabbed to the All-Tournament team for her play throughout the invitational and showing up big in this game with 17 digs and three aces. Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City), Lauren Dalton (Cochranton/Cochranton), and Mary Sperry (Atlantic/Conneaut Lake) all stepped up to carry the team offensively with Ogden and Dalton having 15 kills apiece while Sperry chipped in with 12 of her own.
"Shelia, Lauren, and Mary really carried the load offensively," said Coach Pisano. "They were dominating at times, attacking with aggressiveness as well as making smart decisions to get the ball to the floor."
Behrend improves to 6-3 overall and will next travel to John Carroll on Tuesday, September 15.
