Lions Shutout La Roche to Win Eigth Straight

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team added to their three-game shutout streak by defeating La Roche 3-0 at home Saturday afternoon. The Lions have now won eight straight games and have four straight shutouts.

Behrend's (11-1-1, 5-0) defense held the Redhawks (7-6, 3-1) to only three shots during the game and none of those attempts hit the target. The Lions had a shot advantage of 16-3, including seven in the first half, but could not convert on any of their first-half chances.

After a scoreless first half, current ECAC South Athlete of the Week Nick Stewart (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks) put Behrend out in front 1-0 at the 54:31 mark. Anthony Crivelli (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) set up the play by chasing down a long through ball and got past La Roche goalie Spencer Wolf. He sent a cross through the box and Stewart was there to find the back of the net.

Nine minutes later, Sean Gallagher (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) played a ball in behind the Redhawk defense and Anton Benedikt (Madison, NJ/Madison) was able to settle the ball on a breakaway and place it past Wolf for his first goal of the season.

Evan Augustine (South Park, PA/South Park) extended the Lion lead off a free kick in the 80^th minute. Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) was fouled just outside the box near the end line. Dziadosz served the ensuing free kick into the box and Augustine powered a header off the bottom of the crossbar and in for his second goal of the year.

Behrend is back in action when they travel to Medaille on Tuesday for an 11 a.m. start.
