Kovach (Scott Township/Chartiers Valley) will be competing
in the 2009 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships
hosted by Macalester College at the University of Minnesota
Aquatics Center in Minneapolis March 18-21. Kovach is the
first Behrend swimmer or diver ever to compete at the NCAA
championships.
The reigning AMCC diver of the year will compete in the 3 meter
event on March 18 and take part in the 1 meter event on March
21. Kovach was selected to participate by the NCAA diving
committee, who reviewed her qualifying scores from earlier in the
season. She joins a field of 21 other divers in each
event.
Head coach Jen Wallace said, "Krystal has proven to be a great
addition to our Behrend Lions squad. This is a wonderful
accomplishment for Krystal and sets the tone for seasons to
come."
Wallace, along with assistant coach Gordy Schmidt will be traveling
with Kovach to the championship meet. Kovach most recently
compted at the ECAC championships where she finished fourth in the
one meter event and seventh in the three meter event. Kovach
holds all four Behrend diving records, is a two-time league diver
of the year, and holds the Junker Center pool record in the three
meter event.
