Behrend Lions Women's Track and Field Team Awards Announced
On Monday, June 21, the Behrend Lions women's track and field program announced its team awards for the 2010 season. Coach Cooper recognized a team MVP, Most Improved Player, Rookie of the Year and Leadership and Scholarship award winner.
On Monday, June 21, the Behrend Lions women's track and field program announced its team awards for the 2010 season. Coach Cooper recognized a team MVP, Most Improved Player, Rookie of the Year and Leadership and Scholarship award winner.
Co-MVP honors were distributed to junior Mandy Wehrle (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney) and sophomore Kate Monoskey (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney). Wehrle earned all-league honors in teh 400m dash for the third straight season as well as in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. She is the school record holder in teh 400m, 4x100m, and hte 4x400m. Monoskey claimed all-conference honors in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw for the second consecutive year. She is the school record holder in both the discus and hammer throw.
Meghan Kronenwetter (St. Marys/Elk County Catholic) was selected as the team's Most Improved Player after a terrific 2010 competition year. She has competed in every race distance from 100m up to the 5000m. Kronenwetter was honored with all-league attention in the 1500m run.
The women's Rookie of the Year was Victoria Harwood (Fairhaven, PA/Rumson-Fair Haven). She set school records in the heptathlon and the pole vault. Harwood was named all-conference in pole vault, 4x100m, and as a member of the 4x400m relay team.
The Leadeship and Scholarship award recipient was senior Dana Turley (Sarver, PA/Freeport). Turley, a math education major, is a member of the Chi Alpha Athlete National Honor Society. She holds school records in the 400m hurdles, 4x100, and 4x400m relays. Turley earned several all-conference honors in each of her four seasons competing for the blue and white in a variety of events.
